Tectonic stresses result in the release of energy, felt on the surface as an earthquake. Increasingly, engineering operations, e.g. underground gas storage, Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) or reservoir stimulation also result in stress changes that result in the release of seismic energy. Seismic and microseismic monitoring is the technique used to analyse both natural and induced seismic events from the records of the seismic waves. This course introduces the workflow for the location, characterization and analysis of seismic events at different scales:
The course will be delivered online and includes hands-on tutorials, handouts in electronic format and a 14-day licence of InSite-Plus.
