Seismic and acoustic array design

Overview:

The design and optimisation of network of seismic stations or tools is the first and essential step in the planning of a monitoring project at every scale. A series of factors need to be considered when designing the configuration of a seismic or acoustic emission monitoring network, including: monitoring objectives (range of events, target volume, time), accessibility and infrastructure and cost. Several variables can be analysed during the design phase in order to optimise its configuration according to the objectives for example instrument response and sensitivity, number and position if the stations.

This short course will cover the analysis performed in the design and performance optimisation of a seismic network, with examples applied to reservoir monitoring, regional seismic monitoring and laboratory monitoring of Acoustic Emissions.

This course is intended for geoscientists and engineers involved in the acquisition of seismic, microseismic or AE data, with basic knowledge of the the processing and analysis of passive seismic or AE data.

The course will be delivered online and includes hands-on tutorials, handouts in electronic format and a 14-day licence of InSite-Plus.
